I write stories about people whose souls are sewn in crooked. Very long stories, mostly. I’m trying to get better about that.

(But I’m not going to apologize for the footnotes that should have been a separate historical essay.)

This stack, est. Jan 2024, has rapidly turned into an experimental place for me. I do occasional short pieces (a set of which won first place in the 2024 Gibberish Writing Competition here on Substack!), but like to focus on serial writing. Genres I often visit include dark fantasy, contemporary sci-fi, and historical fiction. See my directory page for a current list of posts and publications.

Themes I enjoy exploring include:

  • the life of the mind vs. embodied reality

  • the struggle to accept a good-enough life when what’s best is impossible

  • the influence of fathers

  • critiques of late postmodernism, thinly veiled under critiques of early postmodernism

  • religion, taken seriously (my fundamental assumption in worldbuilding is that the Catholic Church’s truth-claims are valid.)

If all that sounds like a good time to you, feel free to stick around. If it sounds kind of like a hot mess, well, it is. Either way—thanks for stopping by.

Catholic, wife, mother. When that's not enough work, compulsively analyzes the world and then writes fiction to try and make sense of it. Enjoys entertaining ideas that make Respectable People uncomfortable (see: Catholic.)
